KEY HIGHLIGHTS

GLMI overview. The Global Laser Market Index saw a quarter-on-quarter decline of 13%. Between Q3 2022 and Q3 2023 the Index decreased by 15%. The market slowdown is attributed mostly to the modest demand of lasers for industrial, medical and instrumentation related applications. This is a result of the macroeconomic uncertainty affected also by the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine and the trade tensions between the US and China.

Lasers for medicine and cosmetics. The sales of lasers for medical applications increased between Q2 2023 and Q3 2023. On the other hand, the revenues of laser systems for aesthetic operations decreased considerably for the same period.

Datacom transceivers. The major factor which contained the turbulence of the global laser market for Q3 2023 was the increased demands from the datacom business. AI and ML learning applications witnessed an explosive growth during 2023, which also increased the sales of optical modules for data centers. The sales of 100G and 400G transceivers kept increasing during the year and they are expected to slow down only due to the adoption of the faster 800G modules which were recently introduced by the major players in the communications business.

The first two issues of the GLMI report, covering Q3 2023 and subsequent quarters, will be available free of charge on the TEMATYS website in April and July 2024, respectively.

Starting from September 2024, TEMATYS will introduce subscription-based access to the GLMI report. The annual subscription will be priced at 1400,00 EUR, providing access to all quarterly reports throughout the year.

Additionally, individual reports will be available for purchase at a price of 500,00 EUR per report, allowing stakeholders to access specific insights and analysis as needed.
